Could This Be Renault's New Logo?

A symbol of the future

Could This Be Renault's New Logo?

The Evolution Of Renault's Logo

Renault has revealed a new logo, a geometric version of its diamond-shaped design which has been in use since the 1920s, and here at Startin Renault Worcester we are excited to see where this change in design philosophy can take the brand. While the diamond logo has existed since 1925, the previous iteration had not changed significantly since its introduction in 1992.  The diamond shape that serves as the basis for the logo is still here. Immediately recognizable, it has become emblematic of the brand. With its angles, which adapted to the angled bonnets of the time, this geometric figure had imposed itself on Louis Renault. Since then, the Renault diamond has been redesigned no less than eight times! Nine, with the latest version. This shows how much the brand is keen to evolve with the times.

An Even More Iconic Diamond

Renault has ditched its signature shiny silver and moved to a monochrome emblem straight out of the flat design handbook. It's an angular affair, which is quite similar to Peugeot's recent redesign of their iconic lion emblem. For Gilles Vidal, Renault's Brand Designer, the diamond fundamentally embodies Renault. To preserve this universal geometric shape was an obvious choice. "We have rethought it to become more iconic, simple and meaningful, a true timeless signature, without superfluous effects or colors, with a contemporary takeover of the lines, an essential part of our graphic heritage," he explains. Vidal says that the “symbol of the future” strikes a “balance between recognition of the brand’s heritage and entering a new era”. It also seeks to accompany the changes at the marque, as Renault expands further into the fields of electrification and wider mobility.

The black and white logo appears without any of the typography that has appeared on previous versions. “We have rethought it to become more iconic, simple and meaningful, a true timeless signature,” the designer adds. It will become an “essential part of our graphic heritage”. Uncluttered, with no signature or typography, this new logo has been designed to live in movement. The flat treatment facilitates its animation, for example on video or digital media, but also on vehicles, for their welcome sequence. This new logo will be gradually applied to Renault vehicles. It will proudly appear on those to be launched next year. "By 2024, the entire Renault range will carry this new emblem," concludes Gilles Vidal. The new logo can be seen on the grille of the Renault 5 prototype, where the headlights appear to echo the geometric design.

So, what do you think of the new logo? Here at Startin Renault Worcester we love its simplicity and elegance, and we cannot wait to see it appear on our vehicles in the future!
