Helping Bring On-Street EV Charging To Your Area

Date Posted: 16 July 2026

As demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, access to convenient charging is becoming increasingly important.

For drivers with a driveway or private parking space, charging an electric vehicle at home can be relatively straightforward. However, around 40% of UK households do not have access to off-street parking, making the transition to electric driving more challenging.

Vauxhall’s Electric Streets of Britain campaign aims to help address this by identifying where on-street electric vehicle charging facilities are needed most.

Electric Street of Britain explained

The Electric Streets of Britain campaign has been created to support households without access to a driveway or private parking space.

Vauxhall is working with on-street charging specialists char.gy, Connected Kerb and SureCharge to build a clearer nationwide picture of where demand for residential EV charging currently exists.

Information gathered through the campaign will be used to support local councils as they plan and accelerate the installation of on-street charging infrastructure.

By understanding which streets and communities have the greatest need, councils and charging providers can make more informed decisions about where new charge points could have the greatest impact.

Why is on-street charging important?

Many electric vehicle drivers charge their cars at home overnight. This can be more convenient than relying entirely on public charging stations and allows drivers to start their day with a charged vehicle.

However, this is not always possible for people living in terraced properties, flats or homes without private parking.

Expanding access to on-street charging could help make electric vehicle ownership a more practical option for more households, regardless of where they live or whether they have access to a driveway.

How can I get involved?

To support the Electric Street of Britain campaign, you can complete a short survey on Vauxhall’s website.

The survey asks

  1. Whether you own an electric car

  2. State whether you have access to off-street parking

  3. Enter your postcode

  4. Submit your response

It’s that easy and only takes a few moments to complete!

Your response will help highlight where on-street charging facilities are needed and contribute to a nationwide picture of current and future EV charging demand.

Vauxhall’s Electric Streets of Britain campaign aims to improve access to on-street electric vehicle charging across the UK. It focuses particularly on supporting the 40% of UK households without access to a driveway or other off-street parking.

Many electric vehicle drivers rely on charging at home. However, this can be difficult for people living in flats, terraced properties or homes without private parking. More on-street charging points could make switching to an electric vehicle more practical and accessible.

Vauxhall has partnered with on-street charging specialists char.gy, Connected Kerb and SureCharge. Together, they are helping to identify areas where additional residential charging facilities may be needed.

No. The survey is open to current electric vehicle drivers and anyone who may consider switching to an electric vehicle in the future.

No. You can complete the survey regardless of which vehicle brand you currently drive. The campaign aims to understand the wider demand for on-street EV charging throughout the UK

The information collected will help create a nationwide picture of where demand for on-street charging exists. This information will be used to support local councils as they make decisions about future charging infrastructure.

Completing the survey does not guarantee that a charge point will be installed. However, it will help demonstrate local demand and highlight the areas where additional charging facilities may be most beneficial.

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed.
