FAQs

What You Need To Sell Your Car

For us to purchase your car, we will require the current V5C registration certificate in your current address, the vehicle’s service history, current MOT certificate (if applicable) and any bills or receipts you may have from any work undertaken on the vehicle.

When we come to purchase your vehicle there are certain items we require:

  • V5C registration certificate – this needs to be in the name of the current keeper of the vehicle

  • Service history – the vehicle’s service book and bills showing the service history

  • MOT certificates – if applicable, past and current MOT certificates

  • Repair bills and receipts- any records of mechanical work undertaken on the vehicle

  • Two keys – the valuation provided online will be based on the vehicle having two keys

  • The extras – for example, locking wheel nut keys, sat nav SD cards and radio codes

  • Finance settlement letter – if we’re settling finance on your vehicle, we require documentation from the finance company before we can purchase the vehicle

  • Bank details – have your bank details ready so we can arrange the secure payment. It needs to be the account for the current owner of the vehicle as stated on the V5C registration certificate.

No problem, at Startin Group we’re happy to purchase vehicles with any outstanding finance. For us to do this, we will require a current settlement figure in writing from the finance company (within 7 days), including the agreement reference number. We will then pay the finance company directly to settle amounts owed. Any equity is returned to you.

Yes. A current settlement figure in writing (with the agreement reference number) from the finance company will be required. We will then pay the finance company directly to settle amounts owed. Any shortfall would need to be paid by you, to us, with cleared funds.

No, a full service history is not required. However, the value of a vehicle with a full service history will be higher than one with part of no service history.

To purchase your vehicle we require two forms of personal identification:

  • Valid photo ID – this could be your driving licence or passport

  • Copy of address – this could be a utility bill or bank statement

If the V5C registration document is not in your current address we will need additional proofs of ID.

Here at Startin Group we will require a copy of your original purchase invoice or proof of payment (from a reputable dealer) if you have been the registered keeper of a vehicle for less than 12 months.

How the online valuation works

All valuations provided online are subject to inspection and full appraisal of the vehicle and are not a contractual offer to purchase the vehicle. The online valuation provides a guide price based on the leading industry guide and does not take into account any lack of service history, damage or modifications to the vehicle for example.

The valuation you receive online is valid for 7 days, as is any valuation provided to you at a personal inspection. After this period, it will unfortunately not be valid and the vehicle will have to be revalued. The market changes frequently so we alter our prices to reflect this. Please remember, the valuation you receive online at Startin Group is not a contractual guarantee.

Inspecting your vehicle

Whether you have used our online valuation tool or would prefer to speak to someone directly, there are several convenient ways to arrange an appointment with one of our local team members. You can email us on sellmycar@startingroup.co.uk, call us, or speak to us via our online live chat.

You will be assigned with one of our expert vehicle valuators who will introduce themselves to you and provide their contact details. We do this first so you know precisely who to expect at the valuation. During the inspection, your personal valuator will view the vehicle and ask you any questions in relation to the vehicle. We’re a really friendly, experienced group of local people who want to provide you with the very best price for your vehicle. We are incredibly proud to offer you a polite and professional approach to buying your car.

If after the inspection you’re happy to proceed with the sale of your vehicle we can arrange payment and collection details. Should the valuation not meet your satisfaction, or you would just prefer a little more time to think about it, then no problem. We’re friendly, local people who will never hassle you to sell your vehicle. Your valuation is guaranteed for 7 days from inspection so if or when you’re ready to sell just contact your dedicated expert.

We aim to complete the purchase of your vehicle in a maximum of three working days. Options can be discussed with your dedicated valuation specialist.

The valuation you receive from our free online tool is dependent on several factors that you tell us about your vehicle so is therefore not a contract to purchase your car. Once a viewing appointment has been arranged, at a time convenient for you, you will be assigned with one of our expert valuators who will inspect the vehicle. It’s not until we inspect your car that we can offer you a guaranteed final price to purchase your vehicle. In some cases, we may find that after inspection the vehicle may be worth a little more than our online valuation tool.

We are proud to be a Worcestershire based company and will inspect your vehicle from all our manufacturer approved dealerships in Redditch and Worcester. Your specialist will discuss and arrange this with you.

Payment for your vehicle

Once a valuation and purchase has been agreed we will arrange payment directly and securely into your chosen bank account within 3 days with no charge. It is possible to pay funds the same day for your car; however there may be a small additional charge for this. Our friendly experts will be happy to discuss this with you.

In most cases we do not charge an admin fee for three-day payment directly into your bank account. If you require the payment the same day, there may be a small additional fee. Our friendly experts will be happy to discuss this with you.

If there is any road fund license due back to you this will be refunded directly by the DVLA. Our dedicated experts will be happy to guide you through this process.

What if your car is...

No problem, we are still happy to purchase your car.

If you want to keep your personalised registration it’s easy to transfer it to another vehicle or put it on retention for use at a later date on another vehicle. You can do this online with the DVLA. Our experts will be happy to assist you with this, however we cannot do it for you directly. What’s more, any charge incurred for this from the DVLA will be your responsibility.

At Startin Group we’re happy to purchase your vehicle if it doesn’t currently have an MOT, however it’s worth remembering that this may have an overall affect on the value we provide.

If we need to recover the vehicle, there may be additional transportation and collection costs. We will discuss this with you before we make any arrangements to purchase your vehicle.

Unfortunately if you don’t have a V5C for your vehicle then we will not be in a position to purchase it. However, you can obtain a new V5C registration document from the DVLA. Visit their website for more details.

If we need to recover the vehicle, there may be additional transportation and collection costs. We will discuss this with you before we make any arrangements.

Finance Disclosure

Startin Group Ltd and Thomas Startin Junr Ltd are Appointed Representatives of Automotive Compliance Ltd, who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd's permissions as a Principal Firm allows Startin Group Ltd, Thomas Startin Junr Ltd to act as a credit broker, not as a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required
