Vehicle number plates in the UK change twice every year, as per the DVLA regulations. The first update takes place in March, where the number plate corresponds to the current year (for instance 25 for 2025), while the second update occurs in September, where the last two digits of the current year are added with 50 (for instance, 75 for the year of 2025). The system is designed to allow easy identification of a vehicle's age. This is valuable for both buyers and sellers in the used car market, as well as for authorities.

Key Dates for 25 Number Plates

If you're planning to buy a new car in 2025, you might be interested in the latest number plate release. If your car was registered earlier with a "24" plate or you have bought a used car, there's no requirement to switch. However, it's important to ensure your number plate follows DVLA regulations, as using incorrect or altered plates can result in fines.

1 March 2025: 25 plates become available for newly registered vehicles.

31 August 2025: This is the deadline for registering vehicles with the "25" plates.

1 September 2025: The 75 plate will be introduced, covering registrations for the second half of the year.

While you are allowed to opt for customising plates, it is essential to display them as per DVLA guidelines to ensure compliance.
