The Diamond WheelHub: Our Refurbishment Process

Date Posted: 03 November 2026

We all dream of having immaculate wheels – and anything less than perfect is a source of dissatisfaction for many, particularly when buying or selling a second-hand car.

So, it is important to pay attention to the details and keep the condition of your alloy wheels spotless to maximise its appeal. Scuffing or scraping your alloy wheels can ruin the look of your car. Thankfully repairing is not as costly as you may think – replacing your alloys is not the only option. If your alloy wheels are no longer in pristine condition, a wheel refurbishment can help to restore the appearance of your wheels, making appear as good as new!

Wheel refurbishment is a thorough step-by-step process, whereby the attention to detail is key to its success.

Our alloy wheel repair service involves our specialists, removing old paint coatings, repairing damage and corrosion and apply a completely new finish. Giving it an exceptional finish and which is extremely durable.

Powder coating is the refurbishment of the whole wheel.

This process is removes blemishes and corrosion, each wheel inspected for damage and repaired of kerb rash or scratches along the way if needs be.

The wheel then goes through the powder coating application, the wheels undergo a pre-heated industrial oven to de-gas the alloy, then the powder coat primer is applied. Once the rims have cooled, the final clear coat is applied, and the wheels returned to the oven for an additional 30 minutes to set. After which final inspection is conducted to ensure the quality or the paint is second to none.

The powder coat primer could be a total colour change, or to colour match a wheel to its original finish. (Option is completely down to the owner).

Refurbishing a diamond cut alloy wheel follows a similar process to powder coating, but includes an additional precision-cutting stage. Using a specialist diamond cutting lathe, a thin layer of metal is carefully removed from the wheel's surface to restore its distinctive, polished diamond cut finish.

Corrosion is a common issue with diamond cut alloy wheels, as it can be difficult to achieve a long-lasting protective lacquer finish on a polished metal surface. Even small stone chips can damage the lacquer, allowing moisture to get underneath. Over time, this can cause the lacquer to deteriorate, resulting in a cloudy or discoloured appearance.

Diamond cutting is a highly precise process that requires specialist equipment and careful attention to detail. As a result, refurbishing diamond cut alloy wheels typically takes longer than a standard powder coating refurbishment.

The Diamond Cut process:

  1. We remove the tyres using professional equipment.
  2. We mark the tyres and wheels with matching ID numbers to avoid mix-ups.
  3. We use a special jet machine to clean your alloy wheels from dirt and grit.
  4. We de-grease the surface.
  5. We place the wheel into the lathe for high-precision cutting focusing on damaged spots.
  6. We move the wheel into the pressure-controlled oven to remove any air out of the alloy.
  7. We apply a layer of lacquer to protect your wheels from wear and tear.
  8. We let your alloys cool for about 20-30 minutes.
  9. We carefully inspect the surface to make sure the finish is even and matches our high standards.
  10. We refit your tyres, check the pressure, and balance the wheels.
